My parents bought a farm in Canada when I started Grade Four. This transition was a real challenge for me, but God is so faithful and provided all that I needed to grow and learn. I remember being a student in grade one and wanting to be a teacher just like my aunt who was doing a student teaching stint at our elementary school. Through the transition in Canada, my teachers at the Drayton Christian School were very compassionate and my desire to teach continued. After finishing high school and spending a number of summers working at Camp Shalom, I attended Redeemer College and then the University of Ottawa for my Bachelor of Education. I met my future husband at Camp Shalom, and we were married after I graduated from teacher's college. Once our middle child began attending OCS, we prayed and sought the Lord about accepting the Administrative Assistant position with OCS in March of 2021. As a stay at home mom, I was blessed to also pursue and grow my own business as a photographer. After many years of serving the school my love for OCS continued to grow, and I was thrilled to join the staff to take on the role of marketing and fundraising. My heart is to see OCS continue to grow and thrive, and be well represented as a beautiful community of truth-filled teaching for our children to grow up in. They came together to form the Orillia Christian School Society. This society was never defined by one church or denomination but was from the very beginning a truly interdenominational endeavour. The task of the society in those early years was to promote the idea of Christian education and to raise the necessary funds to make the dream of Christian education in Orillia a reality. In 1968 a number of families started to send their children to the Timothy Christian School in Barrie by Grey Coach Bus Lines. The number of families desiring Christian education for their children steadily increased. By 1971 a small school bus was purchased to facilitate the increase in the number of students. Due to a further increase in students a larger school bus was acquired a few years later. As secularization spread in the public school system, the support and interest spread around among the evangelical community of Orillia grew. More Christian parents began to see that what was being taught in the public school system and what they were teaching their children at home created a mixed message for their children. By 1976 some 45 students were enrolled in Timothy Christian School and making the bus trip to Barrie. In 1976 a steering committee with representation from quite a number of evangelical churches was formed to start to work towards establishing a Christian school in Orillia. By stepping out in faith and praying for guidance a three acre parcel of land was purchased. Through much personal sacrifice and dedication $160,000 was raised for the $200,000 building project and construction began. In September of 1979, with much thanksgiving and celebration, the Lord allowed us to open the doors of the Orillia Christian School to some 90 children. As news of the school spread, more families desired Christian education for their children and the school added three new classrooms in 1984. In 1998 the third and final phase of the original master plan was completed which adding a gymnasium, another classroom, a kitchen, and two washrooms/change rooms. In 2003 additional land was purchased in order to have our own entrance and parking lot. New playground equipment was also installed. The school installed a computer lab which allows students to access various programs for learning as well as the internet for research. We have also introduced an intermediate band program to our music curriculum. Throughout the years Orillia Christian School has striven to provide quality education with a Christian worldview. A sense of belonging or community and a dedication to praying for God’s guidance in decision making are hallmarks of this school. I lived at an Indian school for 2.5 years, studying, while learning the language and customs of the people, and then moved back to Canada where I studied Home Health Care and took Certified Nurse Aide training in the States. Wanting to work with children, I went back to school and became a Registered Early Childhood Educator. The following January I moved to India for a year and a half, where I worked at a children’s home. I enjoy sewing by myself or with others and showing hospitality. After many years of supply teaching in various school boards, I was granted the opportunity to come on board at OCS. My years of supply teaching have helped me to become a flexible teacher who loves to engage with all students. Growing up attending Christian schools, I was able to be supported in my faith and see the impact Christ minded teachers can have on students. I attended Lakehead University for my Bachelor of Education, and had the opportunity to work at schools in Labrador, with a replacement position for 6 months, before joining OCS in 2023. My husband and I moved to Barrie for our teaching jobs, and I also had the privilege of taking extra training with the National Institute for Learning Development to become an Educational Therapist. When we had our children, we decided to move to Orillia. While working in various group homes supporting adults with Developmental Disabilities, I completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Autism & Behavioural Science through Algonquin College. I moved onto working with children with Autism and ran my own business providing Intensive Behavioural Interventions in a home-based environment within the Simcoe County Region. After meeting my husband in 2010, we moved to Parry Sound, ON. I worked as a Senior Therapist and Instructor Therapist within their Autism Intervention Program for several years, and then moved onto working as a Behaviour Communication Therapist and consulted with families to help develop behaviour goals and strategies. I also have experience within the school environment as a Supply Educational Assistant for the Near North District School Board. I was then blessed to work for Community Living Parry Sound where I had a variety of positions from working in their Residential Program, Supported Independent Living Program, Foundations Program & their Children & Youth Program as a Transitional Aged Youth Worker. After welcoming our oldest daughter, I shifted to staying home to care for our now three children while making the move to Orillia, which also led us to OCS where our kids now attend. I have had the privilege to teach in numerous Christian and public schools and also spent five years in camp ministry cultivating my love for discipleship. My husband and I both share a love for God's creation, camping and hiking which we now get to share with our son. I love long walks, all things yellow, swimming, board games and any time spent with friends. One of my greatest joys in teaching is seeing young people overcome challenges that help them take steps to reach their full potential as God's precious children. I grew up in the Barrie/Oro-Medonte area before moving up north to Sudbury to complete my studies at Laurentian University. I have an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in Italian studies and minor in History. I completed my Bachelor of Education at the same time through the Concurrent Education program at Laurentian. In my free time, I enjoy playing piano, reading, and spending time with friends and family. I believe that the most valuable qualities that we can instill in children is teaching them that there is a God who created them and loves them for everything that they are. While I have moved around a lot, Orillia has become our forever home over the past few years. Ministry has always been a significant part of my life whether it’s been serving in the church, camp and as well Christian school as of recent. I am married to my husband Ryan (an elementary school teacher) for 22 years. We have four kids: 2 young adults and 2 teens. I worked as an acute care Paediatric Registered Nurse for 22 years. Over the past few years I have been supplying as a TA and EA in both the Christian and Elementary Schools. I have a passion for coming alongside students to help them navigate life academically, mentally and spiritually. God continues to deepen my faith journey as I walk in obedience to join him at work in peoples lives. I grew up in a small town called Wellesley and moved to Orillia when I was in grade 8. I graduated from Lakehead University with my Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Art and Science in the Spring of 2025. I enjoy spending time with my husband and family, going on walks with my dog Daisy or reading a book out on my patio. I am thankful to have been raised in a family that encouraged living out our faith and nurturing a relationship with God from a very young age. I attended Georgian College, graduating with honours from the Developmental Services Worker program. I also provide respite care, which has given me experience supporting others and understanding their unique needs. I feel very blessed to have grown up attending a Christian elementary school myself. It showed me how the love of Jesus can be woven into everyday learning. I’m excited to help young students experience that same foundation. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, cuddling my dog, and reading a good book. You will rarely find me without a cup of tea in my hand. I am grateful to be joining the OCS team as an Educational Assistant. I am passionate about helping shape young minds, both academically and spiritually. It’s a blessing to walk alongside students in their learning and growth, and I look forward to supporting them as they discover who God created them to be.
